Codman's Bipolar Electrosurgery product
line includes bipolar generators, forceps, tubing and
cord sets. The generator provides both coagulation and
cutting outputs to provide the surgeon with the precise
and effective tissue management needed. As described by
some neurosurgeons, Codman does indeed have the gold standard
for bipolar electrosurgical generators for the neurosurgeon.
Complementing this generator is the largest line of bipolar
forceps, which are available in insulated and un-insulated
styles. The CODMAN® Non-stick Mirror Finish Bipolar
Forceps provide the resistance to sticking needed to give
the surgeon the precise effective coagulation. In addition,
Codman offers a line of disposable instruments for all
neuro and spinal procedures involving coagulation and
tissue removal. The instruments are especially useful
where monopolar devices are not recommended.

"An atraumatic method for handling
the internal mammary artery (I.M.A.) and performing delicate,
small vessel anastomoses. Changes in the types of patients
undergoing coronary bypass surgery dictate changes in
conventional instrumentation. The superior patency of
the internal mammary artery confirm its use as a bypass
conduit. For this reason, the CODMAN® I.M.A. Kit has been
developed. Even under the highest magnification, these
instruments display a superior quality... the only characteristic
better is their precision performance." -Ellis L. Jones,
M.D.

The unique, patented black bayonet
handles of the KARLIN Cervical Microdiscectomy Instruments
enhance microdiscectomy surgery by offering greater precision
and control via CAM design. Handles have rounded corners
for easy rotation and flat sides for controlled, stable
power and leverage that reduces unwanted torque.
The handle is designed to lie comfortably in the web space
of the hand with the index finger resting against the
bayonet rise, pointing to the tip as an extension of the
surgeon's finger. The combination of handle ergonomics
and surgeon proprioception assures precise targeting of
the tip in any tissue location.
Multiple stainless steel tip geometries provide sharp,
crisp control in four basic configurations: Forward Straight,
Backward Straight, Forward Angled and Backward Angled.
Also available are four patterns of reinforced Bone Cutting
Curettes, two Micro Nerve Hooks and a Bone Waxer.

The KARLIN Crank Frame Spinal Retractor
is designed for posterior thoracolumbar surgery. The Crank
Frame arm design allows the blades to be pre-positioned
in the wound. Extra heavy construction is designed to
aid in insertion, retraction and stability. The Crank
Frame Spinal Retractor can be used in a variety of procedures
including PLIF, lumbar laminectomy and implantation of
spinal instrumentation systems.
Solid and strong design resists ejection from the wound.
Hinged arms permit maximum access and visualization while
conforming to individual anatomy. After placement of blades
in wound, the frame engages simply and securely without
complicated lacing or threading. Multiple blades can be
placed on each arm, in surgeon-selected combinations.

The KARLIN Graft Drivers are designed
for safe and accurate placement of tricortical bone grafts.
The head of the drivers have a textured impaction surface
which allows for controlled impaction without damaging
the graft or slipping. The guarded design has two shoulders
which inset the graft, limiting initial access and the
possibility of over penetration. Cervical drivers inset
graft 2 mm and lumbar inset 3mm. The unguarded design
allows for deeper seating of the graft once behind the
vertebral lip.
Spanner: Allows the direct measurement of interspace
height and assures adequate but safe measurements of the
interspace depth. Cervical spanner shoulders guard against
over penetration. Lumbar spanners are designed to support
PLIF techniques. Beveled edges and thick torsional rigidity
allow rotation and the direct assessment of tissue tension.
Distractor: The instrument can be left far lateral,
maintaining the interspace in a distracted position for
graft seating and protection of the nerve root.

The KARLIN Spondylophyte Impaction
Set is a set of instruments designed to allow for the
safe and effective correction of symptomatic spondylophytes.
It is essential that the dural sac and affected nerve
root are fully mobilized so as to allow adequate retraction,
elevation and protection. Retraction is essential and
is best provided by the combined use of one Offset Bayonet
Dural Nerve Root Retractor and one 90 degree Dural Nerve
Root Retractor. These two differently configured retractors
assure that the assistant's hands will not compete for
the same limited space. The suction capability of each
of the instruments assures a dry field and visualization.

KARLIN Magnum Instruments have strengthened
and reinforced handles for mallet impact durability and
ribbed, satin black handles that assure non-slip grip
and reduced glare. Their hardened, razor-sharp stainless
steel cutting edges facilitate precise osteotomies and
ensure optimal weight and balance for surgeon comfort
and control.
KARLIN PG Magnum and XL Magnum Instruments have a two-handled
grip which delivers controlled power and dual wrist action
which produces fine motor precision. Their extra length
enhances visualization and meets the challenge of larger
patients. And their razor-sharp, lightweight and durable
blades reduce surgeon effort and minimize operative time.

The KARLIN Pronged Blades expand the
capability of the KARLIN Crank Frame Retractor to include
unilateral minimal incision surgery. These blades are
designed to engage sufficient interspinous ligament, spinous
process, and lamina to safely generate the counterforce
necessary for adequate self-retaining retraction at one
or two spinal levels.

Codman's MAGNAFREE® Instruments
incorporate safety for patients and O.R. personnel and,
because of their titanium composition, are 43% lighter
than traditional stainless steel instruments and highly
corrosion resistant. Each instrument is etched with "MAGNAFREE®
1.5T," eliminating any confusion with current magnetic
instruments already being used within the hospital.
These uniquely designed rongeurs shave
bone from the underside of the lamina or facet joint rather
than "biting" the bone as with traditional rongeurs. This
feature provides decompression without destroying the
natural architecture of either structure. The footplate
design and reverse cutting action allow the creation of
the thinnest footplate in the industry, while maintaining
strength and cutting edge to effect safe, efficient bone
removal.

MICROSECT Curettes were created for
the purpose of initiating a spinal surgery system that
would be natural and easy to use. The curette combines
an accurate, natural feel with all of the essentials of
a minimally invasive surgical system. The cutting edge
has been increased while reducing the footplate thickness,
allowing the removal of bony encroachment from otherwise
difficult access holes. An oblong shape, instead of the
traditional round cup, increases the side "cutting edge".
The shaft has been modified to reduce tip breakage and
the angle has been improved for access into the neuroforamin
while allowing for overall reduction in cup size. |
